East Cleveland Farmer’s Market to Receive Dramatic Paint Makeover

Lakewood-based painting contractor and its employees give time, talent to transform one of area’s most deserving organizations

In what promises to be a dramatic and inspiring display support for a historic and truly vital enterprise, 60-plus volunteers will scrape, sand, and paint new life into a cornerstone of the East Cleveland community. The Coit Road Farmer’s Market—one of the few places in the East Cleveland where residents can buy fresh, locally-grown produce and a community landmark since 1932—was selected by Lakewood-based Neubert Painting as the 2011 recipient of its annual Charity Paint Giveaway.

In just one day, the historic structure will go from weathered and chipping to fresh and vibrant. The volunteers who will donate their time and talent include Neubert Painting employees as well as employees from Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams, which is also donating the 70 gallons of paint needed to complete the Coit Road Farmer’s Market transformation. The paint giveaway has a total retail value of $16,000.

The Coit Road Farmer’s Market was chosen from 50 nominations submitted to Lakewood-based Neubert Painting for its Charity Paint Giveaway. John Neubert, founder and CEO, says his company is thrilled to help revitalize an institution committed to the well-being of its neighbors and East Cleveland’s economy. "It is often hard for people in urban areas to find fresh produce, and Coit Road Farmer’s Market fills that need, while also serving as an important part of the economic foundation of this community," he says. The Coit Road Farmer’s Market includes an urban farm and a community garden where residents can plant their own produce and sell them at the market.

Kevin Scheuring, vice president of the East Cleveland Famer’s Market Preservation Society says, "We’re very excited to be chosen. Despite the fact that we have great food and good farmers, people have a hard time getting past the shabby exterior. This will make a huge difference to us and to the people in the neighborhood."
