Happenings at the Tremont Farmers' Market

Aug 30, 2011. Friendly in the Park: TFM and Connections.

Hello there, Marketpeeps.
I hope you all are well.  Today, I haven’t found inspiration for this eblast, but when I think about you all out there, I realize how this market, and I would have to say, all the markets out there, are about so much more than food.  This is not a novel idea, I realize; in fact, there are now organizations working on measuring the beneficial impacts that farmers’ markets have on their communities, in addition to boosting the economy.  For me, managing this market continues to be a wild ride, and I am frequently touched by watching the interlacing and overlapping of connections occurring in and around the market crowd.  Personally, I have met so many wonderful people at TFM, and for this, I am very grateful.
See you at the Park!
This week:
5PM Chef Demo: Gardening and cooking go hand in hand, and Chef Brian Doyle is a fine example of a chef not afraid to get his hands dirty!  Please join us for his cooking demo, I’m sure it’ll be awesome.  More info about the fantastic stuff Chef Brian is doing: http://sowfood.com/
Music:  Beth Gatchell will be playing at TFM for the first time!  I first heard Beth strum her guitar and sing about 8 years ago, and she was good then, I’m sure she’ll be great at market! Check her out at:http://www.myspace.com/paledaisies
Recycle/Reuse/Reduce:
Bring your bags, reduce your use of plastic.
Return egg cartons to Hickory Acres Meats.
Return tea containers to t by Sarah.
Return glass jars to Godmother’s Pizzas, Abby’s Kitchen and Humble Pie.
Another way to give: St. Augustine’s Church, which is across the street from the market, supports TFM in many ways.  Please consider purchasing food from the market to put in our Hunger Center bucket at the Customer Service Tent; I will personally make sure it is taken to the kitchen across the street.  For years, the folks at St. Augustine’s have fed many, many people 7 days a week.
**TFM t-shirts ($12) and aprons ($15) for sale at the Customer Service Tent!
EBT Proudly accepted! EBT Incentive Program still in effect. Participants who use more than $5 from their Ohio Direction Cards receive an extra $5 to spend at the market. EBT can be used to purchase food plants!

I want to publicly thank my friends Kathy and Jim, who regularly feed me good food, good company and good humor.  The latest laughs are in the form of a book: I Like You. Hospitality Under the Influence, by Amy Sedaris.
In the introduction to the chapter titled “The Art of Hospitality”, Sedaris writes:
‘A party can be as simple as a few people getting together for conversation and snacks.  As my guests leave even my most simplest parties, I consistently hear the same thing: “That was the best time I ever had,” and it’s always me saying it.  But I do know in my heart they all feel the same way, probably.’
Peace,
Jody Lathwell, Market Manager
